Jenny Wiley StakesLexington, Ky. Keeneland Race Course
The Jenny Wiley Stakes was first held in 1989 and the 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares 4 years old and older has always drawn a cast of racing's top female turf stars. Grass standouts such as Tates Creek, Intercontinental, My Typhoon and Forever Together won the Jenny Wiley Stakes.
Juddmonte Farms has won the race a record three times as owner. Hall of Fame trainers Bobby Frankel and Bill Mott have four victories in the race. Mott's Apolda set the stakes-record with a winning time of 1:40.78 in 1996.
Jenny Wiley was a Virginia pioneer who survived an Indian attack, captivity and the murders of her five children and her three brothers. After escaping captivity and reuniting with her husband, Wiley and her family moved to Kentucky, where her legend is commemorated with two highway markers, a state park and an outdoor drama.
