Tony Dutrow, son of Dick Durow, a trainer who won more than 3,600 races, started working in his father’s barn when he was 10. He is the eldest of the three Dutrow brothers, all of whom have been trainers, and his wife helps him run the stable.
Dutrow opened his own stable in New York in 1987 after working for two years for the late Bobby Frankel and credits the Hall of Fame trainer for helping him establish his own stable. He now maintains divisions in New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania. In 2010, he trained Havre de Grace for owner Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm before she was sent to Larry Jones in 2011 and became the 2011 Horse of the Year. His other graded stakes winners include Grace Hall, Seattle Smooth, A Little Warm, Rightly So, and Liam’s Dream.
Dutrow trains Giant Finish, who finished third in the 2013 Spiral Stakes to earn a spot in the Kentucky Derby. After a tenth place effort in the Kentucky Derby, the colt then ran in the Belmont Stakes.
