Donald Dizney bred and owned 2011 Hollywood Gold Cup winner First Dude, whom he named for Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, the self-styled “First Dude” when Palin was governor of Alaska. First Dude the horse now stands stallion duty at Dizney’s Double Diamond Farm in Ocala, Fla., along with Dizney’s favorite horse, homebred Wekiva Springs, who earned more than $1.5 million. Dizney also bred and owns quality sprinter Apriority.

While attending college at Eastern Kentucky University on a football scholarship, Dizney went to the 1961 Kentucky Derby and saw Florida-bred Carry Back win. That stirred his dream of owning racehorses.

Dizney is chairman of the board of Orlando-based United Medical Corp., which owns and operates a chain of acute care and psychiatric hospitals, and chairman of PremierCare, a company that provides specialized care to seniors.

His passion for sports included ownership interests in the USFL Tampa Bay Bandits, USFL Orlando Renegades and the Arena Football League’s Orlando Predators.
