Steven Coburn and Perry Martin met when they each owned 5% of racemare Love the Chase as part of a Blinkers On racing partnership. When her racing days were over they bought her for $8,000 as a broodmare prospect.
Love the Chase was bred to California sire Lucky Pulpit, and the resulting foal was California Chrome, now known as the 2014 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner. California Chrome is currently the only horse the partnership races and has won them over $3 million in 2014.
Coburn works as a press operator in a northern Nevada factory. He and his wife Carolyn live in Topaz Lake, Nev.
Martin, along with his wife, Denise, own and operate Martin Testing Laboratories at the former McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento and reside in Yuba City, Calif.
