Bred: H & W Thoroughbreds (KY)
Sire: War Front
Dam: Greyciousness, by Miswaki
The Factor continues to progress toward a second straight appearance in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships this year – probably in the Sprint at his home track, Santa Anita Park. Trainer Bob Baffert prefers a one-turn race for the gray or roan son of War Front out of Greyciousness, by Miswaki.
Of the 4-year-old colt, who sold for $250,000 at the 2010 Barretts May sale of 2-year-olds in training, Baffert has said, “He’s always been brilliant since day one.”
The colt, owned by David Shimmon’s Fog City Stable and George Bolton, has backed up that judgment in most of his races, including defeating older horses at age 3 in Del Mar’s Pat O’Brien Stakes (G1). Earlier in the year, he was a factor on the Triple Crown trail until suffering a displaced palate in the Arkansas Derby (G1).
The Factor is a member of his sire’s first crop and his success, along with that of several other from his first crop, has helped to run the stallion’s 2012 stud fee to $60,000 at Claiborne Farm. Joining The Factor as graded stakes winners from War Front’s first crop are Soldat and Summer Soiree, winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks.
In his 2012 debut, The Factor, named for the “O’Reilly Factor” cable television show on Fox News Channel, defeated 2011 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) and Eclipse Award champion sprinter Amazombie to establish himself as a major contender for the 2012 Sprint.
