Breeder: Cina Forgason (Ky.)
Sire: Lemon Drop Kid
Dam: Chic Corine, by Nureyev
Somali Lemonade began her career with a win at Belmont Park. She followed that up by winning the Grade 3 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland before a disappointing finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
She placed in several graded stakes as a 3-year-old including the Grade 1 Garden City and the Grade 2 Lake Placid. As a 4-year-old she won the Grade 3 Penny Memorial Handicap but turned in four sub-par efforts to round out the year.
Trainer Michael Matz added blinkers for the mare's 5-year-old campaign and his patience paid off as Somali Lemonade won the Grade 3 Gallorette and placed in the Grade 1 Just A Game before winning her first Grade 1, the Diana Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
Somali Lemonade is a daughter of top stallion Lemon Drop Kid. She is out of the Nureyev mare Chic Corine, making her a half-sister to stakes winners Rasta Farian and Kris's Dancer and graded stakes-placed Chic Joy.
