Kentucky Oaks winner Princess of Sylmar owned the New York circuit over the winter prior to that victory, winning her third race by 5 1/4 lengths before taking both the Busanda and Busher Stakes. Her first defeat of the year came to fellow 2013 Kentucky Oaks (G1) entrant Close Hatches in the Gazelle Stakes (G2), a race that locked her in to the Oaks field.
Princess of Sylmar won the Coaching Club American Oaks and the Alabama Stakes at Saratoga in the summer of 2013. She confirmed her status as one of the best fillies in training when she soundly defeated two-time champion Royal Delta in the Beldame Invitational Stakes in September but finished last of six in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, finishing behind fellow 3-year-old fillies Beholder and Close Hatches.
Princess of Sylmar won her 2014 debut in the Cat Cay Stakes before finishing a closing second to Close Hatches in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps. She then finished second in the Delaware Handicap behind Belle Gallantey and a dull fifth in the Personal Ensign behind Close Hatches. The filly is being pointed toward a defense of her title in the 2014 Beldame.
Princess of Sylmar is a Pennsylvania-bred out of a half-sister to millionaire Rhythm Band.
