Mucho Macho Man is a son of Macho Uno, the winner of the 2000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Mucho Macho Man is trained by Kathy Ritvo for owner Reeves Thoroughbred Racing. He was bred in Florida by John and Carole Rio.
His first graded stakes score came in the 2011 Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes at Fairgrounds, which he won prior to his twin third place showings in that year's Louisiana Derby and Kentucky Derby.
On March 10, 2012, Mucho Macho Man captured his second graded stakes when he was victorious in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap. He finished a game second in the 2012 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Classic and posted an impressive victory earlier that year in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap, which he won by 2 1/2 lengths.
In 2013, Mucho Macho Man placed third in the Grade 1 Whitney Invitational Handicap and the Criminal Type Stakes. In preparation for the Breeders' Cup Classic he proved he was competitive by beating rival Paynter for a 4 1/4 length win in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita. The Macho Uno son won the 2013 Breeders' Cup Classic under jockey Gary L. Stevens.
