Breeder: Mike Pegram (Ky.)

Sire (father): Midnight Lute

Dam (mother): Miss Wineshine, by Wolf Power

Midnight Hawk, a colt owned by a partnership that includes NFL coach Mike Tice and NHL head coach Joel Quenneville, romped in his career debut for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and then came right back to win the Grade 3 Sham Stakes in his 3-year-old debut. He followed that up with a third place finish in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes before second place finishes in both the San Felipe and Sunland Derby, which were good enough to get him into the Kentucky Derby.

His dam is stakes winner Miss Wineshine, who finished second in 1999 in the Grade 3 Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs and Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga Race Course and also ran third in the Grade 1 Spinaway at Saratoga. She raced for Mike Pegram, who also bred Midnight Hawk and is part of the ownership group.

Pegram also raced in partnership Midnight Hawk's sire, champion sprinter Midnight Lute, as well as his grandsire (paternal grandfather), dual classic winner Real Quiet.
