The Arch son joined graded stakes company by finishing second in both the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap and the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap.
Hymn Book started 2012 off strong, with a win in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap. He finished second in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap later that year and recorded a win in the Frank "Pancho" Martin Stakes in his second to last start of the year.
2013 held three second place finishes for Hymn Book including the Grade 2 Alysheba and Monmouth Cup Stakes. He finished third in the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap.
The Arch gelding out of the Known Fact mare Vespers is one of two horses that trainer Shug McGaughey has developed into Grade 1 winners this year for long-time client, owner-breeder Stuart Janney, and both are products of his breeding program. Vespers and her full sister Database both were stakes winners for Janney who have gone on to produce Grade 1 winners. Database produced the 2012 Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes winner Data Link.
