A winner in his debut, Hootenanny won a maiden at Keeneland by an impressive 4 1/4 lengths to become the first winner for freshman sire Quality Road.

A month later, Hootenanny proved that a muddy track isn't his favorite surface when he finished third of four in the Rollicking Stakes on the dirt. However, that didn't dull trainer and co-owner Wesley Ward's faith in the colt as Ward sent him over to England for the Royal Ascot meet where he ran on the turf for the first time. The switch of surface seemed to suit the colt as he handily won the Windsor Castle Stakes, providing trainer Wesley Ward with his fourth Royal Ascot winner.

As strong as Hootenanny was in the spring, he maintained his level of excellence into the fall. The talented colt stretched out to a mile in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf and reeled in stablemate Luck of the Kitten to pick up his third win of the year.

Hootenanny is out of a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Cat Moves. His third dam is multiple graded stakes winner Dance Teacher.
