A homebred for Brereton C. Jones, Albano won his second start before moving to stakes competition in his next start, annexing the Sugar Bowl by 1 1/4 lengths. Albano continued on the Kentucky Derby trail when he finished second to Vicar's In Trouble in the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes and then a game second to Intense Holiday in the Risen Star Stakes. After a fourth-place effort in the Louisiana Derby his connections decided against competing in the Triple Crown races. 

Albano returned to the races in the 2014 Peagasus Stakes, winning by 6 1/2 lengths. He then ran second in the Haskell Invitational behind Bayern.

Albano is a half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Mark Valeski and out of multiple stakes winner Pocho's Dream Girl. Albano comes from the family of leading silver Silver Buck and champion Silver Spoon.
